Tokyo (AFP) – The track and field competitions begin on the sixth day of the Tokyo Games and on Thursday four medals in the group will be decided in coverage of the Olympic Games.
The women’s all-around gymnastics competition will continue without defending gold medalist Simone Biles, who withdrew due to struggles with her mental health.
The US men’s and women’s volleyball teams both play while the US women’s basketball team plays Japan.

track field
The Olympic Stadium will open for the first time since the opening ceremony with the start of the qualifying rounds for athletics.
Americans compete for the medal in Ray Benjamin in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, and Athing Mo and Agie Wilson in the women’s 800-meter hurdles.
A medal will be awarded in the men’s 10,000m final. Coverage will be live on USA Network.
swimming
It’s another busy day swimming at the Tokyo Aquatics Center where medals were awarded in four events.
Lily King, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and bronze medalist in the women’s 100m breaststroke earlier this week, will compete alongside Annie Lazur for gold in the women’s 200m breaststroke.
Three-time gold medalist Ryan Murphy, who won bronze this week in the men’s 100m backstroke, is aiming for a second straight gold in the men’s 200m backstroke.
The men’s 200-meter individual medley and the women’s 100-meter freestyle will also be decided. Broadcasting begins at 8 p.m. on NBC.
Gymnastics
The arrival of a new champion in women’s gymnastics after Simone Biles withdrew from competition. The gymnast, who was considered the greatest of all time, cited her mental health and stress as a reason not to participate in the all-out competition.
Jade Curry, who finished ninth in the playoffs, will replace Biles in every way. Curry did not qualify initially because she was third in America behind Biles and Sunissa Lee. International Gymnastics Federation rules limit the number of nations to two athletes per event in the final.
The competition is now likely to fall to Brazilian Rebecca Andrade, who finished second after Biles in the qualifiers, followed by Lee, Russia’s Angelina Melnikova and Vladislava Orazova. The four were separated by three-tenths of a point in the playoffs. Everything will be broadcast live on Peacock Thursday morning at 6:50 a.m., with reruns on NBC during primetime coverage.

Beach volleyball resumes with the US “first team” meeting in April between Ross, Alex Kleinman and the Netherlands. A win would take them to the knockout stage with a perfect 3-0 record.
Ross won the silver at the London Games and the bronze at the Rio Games. Kleinman Olympics for the first time. The match will be broadcast on CNBC from 8pm.
men volleyball
The US men’s volleyball team faces its toughest test yet for the Olympics as the Americans take on defending champion Brazil in their fourth pool game.
The United States has won so far 2-1 at the Games after beating Tunisia in four sets behind strong performances from TJ DeFalco and Max Holt. The Americans are in good shape to advance to the quarter-finals after winning the bronze medal four years ago. The match is part of CNBC’s prime-time coverage starting at 8 p.m.

The BMX Race Finals will take place on NBC’s Nighttime Channel, running until 2am. The USA Women’s Basketball team will face Japan on the USA Network at 12:40 p.m.
The semi-finals of the men’s singles, mixed doubles and men’s doubles finals begin at 11pm on the Olympic Channel, while the second round of the men’s golf tournament continues until 3am on the Golf Channel.
