Frans Hals Museum director, Anne Demeester, will leave on 1 February. She will then work as a director at the Kunsthaus Zurich, the largest art museum in Switzerland.

Belgium’s Demeester has been in charge of the Municipal Museum since 2014. According to the Art Museum, she’s made a big difference there.

In Switzerland, Demeester will lead a museum that has an extensive collection covering many centuries. It includes works by Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Munch.

    Highlights

According to the Supervisory Board of the Frans Hals Museum, Demeester successfully led the Haarlem Museum. Under her leadership, ‘Frans Hals’ had many highlights according to Chairman Frans Corpeleijn.

He also says that the outgoing director “has achieved a lot” in commercial terms: “including professionalizing the team and creating fundraising, which means the museum now has a circle of private donors for the first time in its history and its own revenue has increased from 20 to 48 percent. It did better, according to the supervisory board, because the museum had to deal with significant budget cuts from the municipality.
