The European Union also believes that researchers into the origin of the coronavirus should be able to look around it all. European Union leader Charles Michel says “all efforts to achieve clarity” can count on the union’s support. By doing so, the EU appears to be joining the US, which is calling for a new investigation because China would have placed too many restrictions on the previous investigation.

Scientists from the World Health Organization, including Dutch Marion Koopmans, were already in China at the beginning of this year to research the origin of the virus. But many questions remain unanswered, according to critics, in part because China has given researchers too little space. Koopmans himself advocates further investigations and possibly even inspections, but China is not in favor of that at the moment.

“The world has a right to know exactly what happened,” said Charles Michel, head of the European Union’s Council of Heads of Government. That is why we are already supporting all efforts to achieve transparency and know the truth.” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said researchers should be given “full access” to “whatever it takes to find the source of this epidemic.” information and places.

Von der Leyen and Michel discuss the issue at the G7 summit with seven of the major industrialized nations, including the United States. Together, they would like to call for an “interference-free” investigation to be pursued.
