Elon Musk, right-hand man, leaves car manufacturer Tesla | the cars

Tesla had to say goodbye to Jerome Guillen, one of the company’s top four CEOs. The Frenchman had been working at the electric car manufacturer for ten years and until recently he was heading a new department working on developing electric trucks.

Guillen was supposed to leave the company as early as June 3, according to documents reportedly submitted just this week. The Frenchman was seen as CEO Elon Musk’s right-hand man, and in 2018 he was the mastermind behind ramping up production of the Tesla Model 3. It happened in a tent outside the factory. Guillen was Tesla’s first automotive division chief and was named head of the promising heavy-duty truck development division in March.

Analysts say Guillen’s departure represents a major loss for Tesla. He was appointed to Tesla as program manager for the Model S, the pioneering electric car that laid the foundation for the Model X crossover and low-cost Model 3, early in the fall of 2010 at Tesla.

Tesla has struggled with high turnover among CEOs for years. Guillen actually took a few months off in 2015, for reasons that aren’t clear, but returned in 2016 to lead the trucking program — until then. Two years later he joined the automotive division and then returned to the trucking business. The start of production of the so-called Semi Truck was delayed. Whether Guillen’s departure has anything to do with this is unknown. The truck relies on bigger, more powerful batteries that Tesla is trying to build itself with partners such as Japan’s Panasonic.

It’s the second time in a short time that Tesla has released bad news. A few days ago, it was announced that Tesla will not be taking the Plaid+ version of the Model S into production. This model will be the top model in the S model range, with a range of more than 840 km and a power of more than 1,100 hp. Tesla introduced the promising version in January.

CEO Elon Musk stated on Twitter that Plaid+ has been canceled because this model is “unnecessary”. The regular Plaid version will be “good enough”. Musk does not explain why the form was cancelled.

A video posted on YouTube last Saturday criticized Elon Musk and his tweets with bitcoin. According to the sender(s) – who are members of the hacker group Anonymous, but this is called into question by many – the South African CEO is manipulating the prices of cryptocurrencies, causing “the destruction of lives”. They tell Musk that his game is now over: “I’ve found your match. We’re coming after you.”
