On Saturday there will be no football in England during the funeral of Prince Philip, who died on Friday at the age of 99. The FA decided this after consulting with the British royal family.
The funeral begins at 4:00 pm. There will be no games between 3:45 PM and 5:15 PM. Today’s 32nd Premier League match between Wolverhampton and Sheffield United will start at 9:15 pm instead of 4:00 pm. Nothing will change for Newcastle-West Ham (1:30 PM) and the FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Manchester City at Wembley (6:30 PM).
The decision mainly affects duels in the lower divisions. Clubs are asked to choose a new start time by mutual consultation. If no agreement is reached, the FA will be drowned.
In all matches, the players will wear a blacksmith squad and there will be a minute of silence before the start.
The program has also changed in Scotland, where the fourth round of the Football Cup will be on the agenda next weekend. And it is not only the football world that mourns Prince Philip. The Rugby and Equestrian Federation, among others, also announced that no matches would be held during the funeral.
