The administration of US President Joe Biden has been trying to establish contact with the regime in North Korea since mid-February. A senior US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the news agency that the attempts so far “through various channels” have been unsuccessful. Reuters. So far, we have not received a response from Pyongyang. “

For now, the Biden government has been publicly cautious about its approach to North Korea. The new administration is said to be conducting a comprehensive review of rapprochement policy under Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump, who held a number of meetings with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Then Trump failed to persuade North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons. According to an anonymous government official, there have been no negotiations with the regime in Pyongyang for more than a year now.

The Biden government also contacted the North Korean delegation to the United Nations in New York. But there was no response.

Biden described Kim as a “criminal” during the election campaign and said he would only see him “as long as he agreed to phase out his nuclear capability.” An American delegation will soon travel to South Korea and Japan. Then it is said that these two countries’ concerns about North Korea’s nuclear program will be high on the agenda.
