Majority Chamber appears to limit flights to the UK • “First doses of Janssen vaccines in the European Union in April”

Majority Chamber appears to limit flights to the UK • “First doses of Janssen vaccines in the European Union in April”

Brian Rodriguez, January 14, 2021

GroenLinks and the D66 both want Cabinet to drastically reduce the number of flights out of the UK. The two parties consider it incomprehensible that under the current circumstances there are still eight flights daily from London to the Netherlands, while one in 30 people there is infected.

The parties are calling on the Council of Ministers to stop the number of flights. Both Klaver (GroenLinks) and Jetten (D66) now see more benefits in this than curfews. According to Claver, it is not possible for “entrepreneurs to adhere to strict procedures and flights from England can continue as usual.”

The cabinet has yet to respond to the proposal, but Public Health Minister De Jong said earlier in the debate that the cabinet now does not support a complete flight ban. For example, food is also provided by passenger flights. People should also reserve the opportunity to board a plane for urgent matters, such as a funeral.

Minister De Jonge indicates to the house that travelers should actually take a coronavirus test three times: 72 hours before departure, a rapid test while boarding and a test after five days of quarantine. Minister de Jong said: “This is now a relative measure, a kind of triple lock to keep the virus away.” “If necessary, we will move to no-fly.”

It is not against compulsory quarantine, but it is extremely difficult to control. “It has to be credible. You can’t put a snake in front of every door.”
