The bijSTOX garden center in Venlo will be closed forever. Garden furniture giant Kees Smit Tuinmeubelen is taking over the site.

The branches at Roermond, Heerlen and Maasbracht will remain in BijSTOX’s hands.

    Outdoor space
“I can imagine that this decision might come unexpectedly to the employees working on our site at Venlo as well as to our customers,” explains Peter Stokes, General Manager of STOX Venlo. But shutting down Venlo is a strategic choice. According to Stokes, the site does not have outdoor space and the park center cannot adequately spread this specialty.

    Clients from Belgium and Germany
Kees Smit Tuinmeubelen wants to open its doors in Spring 2022. After Almelo and Amersfoort, Venlo is the third branch of the garden furniture giant. Henk Smit, General Manager of Kees Smit Tuinmeubelen, says: “Until now we also establish ourselves in Venlo, it has become much more accessible to us for clients from Noord-Brabant, Gelderland and Limburg. In addition, this site will become more attractive to our German and Belgian visitors.”

    Action
Staff were informed of the seizure on Tuesday morning. Staff are transferred to one of the other stores in the park center. Smit expects around 30 jobs to be available in the first year.
