Nominations for the 2021 Golden Globe Awards won’t be announced for a month, but the first controversy over the nomination is coming true.
Actor Simo Liu and director Lulu Wang describe it as a shame that the film is banned by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) because it has “a lot of dialogue in foreign languages”. That Indiewire Film Website Reports.
“I’ve never seen an American movie more than Minari this year. This movie is about a family of immigrants who want to follow the American dream in the US. Her film The Farewell met the same fate this year because the dialogues were mainly speaking in a language other than English.
Other film journalists comment that it is hypocritical to dismiss the movie Minari, while nominated films such as Inglourious Basterds (Quentin Tarantino) and Babel (Alejandro González Iñárritu) also spoke many languages other than English. Babel even won Best Drama.
