Due to the coronavirus, things are bleak for winter sports fans. However, children up to the age of twelve, who usually play winter sports with their families in Austria, Switzerland or France, can go on this Christmas break on the slopes of the Skicentrum Moser. They are taught in small groups by a graduate student of ROC van Twente.

    ‘Delicious Austrian food’

“It’s so cool to be able to slide like this and then spin,” says enthusiastic Nod, who has been on the Inscade slope since Monday. “You can also get Austrian food here, like Kaiserschmarrn and sausage with french fries,” he continues. Today there is spaghetti with tomato sauce on the menu.

Children who usually cannot do winter sports, because their parents do not have money for it, can also enjoy this holiday in his chant. “It’s a little crazy,” says a girl who skates for the first time. “I only fell once.”

    Training for students

The snow camp in its chant during these two weeks is also a godsend for students of ROC van Twente. “It used to be normal to be in the snow in Austria now, but it doesn’t look like we will be able to travel to the slopes in January,” says the organization and student Myrthe Bergboer. Her fellow student Tom Van Imst adds, “This is a great way to earn our training points, so we can continue our education.”

Students of ROC van Twente from the sport and exercise program would have preferred being in the snow themselves, but with post-ski music in the background, this snow camp still satisfies themselves and the kids. For the second week of the Christmas break, there are still a few places available for kids who also want to learn to ski for a day.
