Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are six points behind leaders Liverpool in a postponed match after their 3-2 win over Sheffield United on Thursday.

Veteran midfielder Nemanja Matic said Manchester United is good enough to compete for the Premier League title this season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side moved up to sixth in the standings with another win on Thursday after an early setback to beat club club Sheffield United 3-2 at Bramall Lane.

About a third of the way through the season, United are now six points behind leaders Liverpool with a game in hand.

Coming from behind was the prerogative of the Red Devils this season but Matic wasn’t alarmed by Dean Henderson’s early mistake that allowed David McGoldrick to give Blades the lead.

“I don’t think we started slowly,” Matic said. BBC Radio 5 Live. We knew what to expect, that they would fight for their lives. Unfortunately we conceded with a minor error, but we were able to turn the game around and score three goals.

“These are three points that are very important to us, they bring us closer to the big teams. They don’t deserve to get just one point this season, but that’s football.”

“If we continue like this … it will be difficult at times but we have to show our quality in every match. I think we have the quality to fight for the title; if we are going to win, I don’t know.”

While Thursday night saw three more points head to Manchester, it also means Sheffield United has now made the worst start to a league season in English football history.

Solshire and his players pursue much higher goals. Prior to the match, Matic’s teammate, midfielder Fred, made it clear his ambition to see his team top the standings by the end of the year.

United play tough matches against Leeds United and Leicester City Wolves before the end of December, in addition to the Carabao Cup quarter-final match away to Everton.

“If we can win all of them, then we will be very close to the leaders at the top of the league or we can even occupy the first place,” Farid told the club’s official website.

“So we will strive to win every match and I am sure our team will do their best to reach the top of the table and stay there.”

If United confirm their title aspirations by the end of that series, then the potential season-clash with champions Liverpool is close – at Anfield, on January 17th.
