The federal government is running table top exercises and simulations to overcome any potential issues with the rollout of the Canadian COVID-19 vaccine, but the biggest wrinkles remain exactly when the vaccines arrive.

Government officials said Canada could start rolling out the doses by early January, with the Pfizer vaccine planned to be the first to be distributed.

The CEO of the Center for New Arrivals, Anila Lee Yuen, said a coalition of community organizations are working together to help provide health and social support, primarily in East Calgary, as the COVID numbers rise.

Work has intensified over the past week as they have put in place a strategy to make sure that help gets there.

Thursday marked another day of record-setting in the COVID-19 pandemic in Alberta.

The county has recorded a flurry of factual records, including reporting 1,854 new cases, more than 100 cases above the previous record, set earlier this week.

These new cases came from fewer than 20,000 tests, which equates to 9.4 percent of the positivity rate. It’s the highest positive rate Alberta has ever recorded, indicating that the record levels of infection are not the result of an increased volume of tests.
