DisCon III, World 79, will feature the “Best Video Game” category at the 2021 Hugo Awards. DisCon III Co-Chair Colette Fuzard said,
Since early 2020, many of us have spent more time playing games than we expected. This award will provide fans with an opportunity to celebrate games that have been meaningful, joyful and exceptional over the past year. Video games derive from the same deep creativity that has fueled science fiction, fantasy writing, and art for many years. This innovative and interactive genre has given us new ways of telling stories as well as new stories that we tell and we are happy to honor.
The category for Best Special Video Game of 2021 only, although the “Hugo Study Committee also considers the best game or interactive experience a potentially permanent category.” DisCon III will be held from August 25-29, 2021 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC
