Video: Look at the canceled SNES from Ocean Software, Green Lantern

Green lantern We might not remember him very much other than a botched movie starring Ryan Reynolds over the past decade, but long before that in the early 1990s, British developer Ocean Software was working on a Super Nintendo video game licensed to the DC Comics hero.

This never-launched project has remained largely shrouded in mystery until now, but thanks to video game historians Liam Robertson And Frank Gasking – the creator of games that weren’t – we’ve now got our first look at the game in action after all these years.

Ocean started working on the Green Lantern in 1991 for multiple platforms but discontinued it within months. By 1993, work began one more time In the project, this time for SNES. It was a mixture of genres including platforming, shooting and even taking advantage of Nintendo’s Mode 7 capabilities. This was followed by a third iteration in 1995 that was eventually canceled.

This took the third the company borrowed Jurassic Park 2 Engine and aims to be more loyal to source materials. Hal Jordan also replaced Kyle Rayner with a new green lantern, but was eventually left out when DC Comics announced the series ‘World Change’ event, which also affected the broader universe of DC.
