SpaceX’s Starlink is said to have begun sending out experimental calls for satellite internet service in Canada.
Reddit users have revealed that they are sending invitations to Canadians living in Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan.
The invitations say Internet Starlink will cost $ 129 a month in Canada, and the dish costs $ 649. It is worth noting that Starlink internet has unlimited bandwidth.
“I got a call at 49.5 latitude in Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada. I’m going to pass it on now though. One Reddit user said the initial cost would be $ 799.68.”
It comes as Starlink recently received regulatory approval from Canadian authorities earlier this month. Starlink has gained a large following in Canada, as residents who live in rural areas hope the service will eventually deliver them at affordable speeds and prices.
CEO of SpaceX Elon Musk tweeted There will be a “significant expansion of the pilot program in 6 to 8 weeks,” so it is likely that more Canadians will receive invitations in the coming weeks.
The Starlink team noted in previous calls that beta participants can expect to see data transfer speeds ranging from 50Mbps to 150Mbps and latency from 20ms to 40ms over the next several months.
SpaceX also recently launched the Starlink app for iOS and Android users. The app will help beta participants to locate the installation site that ensures the best quality of service, and also allows users to check for obstructions that could interfere with the service.
Starlink aims to leverage an extensive network of hundreds of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites to provide high-speed internet across parts of the United States and Canada.
