Local public health announced the COVID-19 outbreak at the Helen Henderson Care Center in Amherstview on Wednesday.

The outbreak was first announced on October 28 after an employee and a home resident were identified as positive for the virus.

It was the second outbreak declared of Kingston at a long-term care facility, as it was the first in Fairmont Home on October 8 after an employee tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

An outbreak is declared at any long-term care facility if a single case of COVID-19 is identified in the facility.

All three cases associated with these two outbreaks are considered resolved, according to Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Public Health’s COVID-19 dashboard on their website.

The local health unit reported two new cases of COVID-19 in the community on Wednesday: a woman in her twenties working in health care and being investigated for exposure to the virus, and a female in her twenties who had been infected. Travel related. Both are located in Kingston.

The new cases bring the total in the Kingston area to 199. There are 15 active cases, and none of them have been hospitalized.

On Tuesday, St. Lawrence College issued a press release informing the public that a positive case of COVID-19 has been identified in a student who was enrolled in a program at Kingston’s campus.

“In order to respect privacy and maintain the confidentiality of a student’s medical information, (the college) can only confirm their presence on the Kingston campus in the second week of November,” the statement said. “Their COVID-19 shrinkage is being monitored by Public Health.”

It is not clear at what date a student received a positive test result.
