Topeka, Kansas – The outbreak of the Corona virus killed 10 residents of a nursing home in Kansas, and the local health department said every member of the population had tested positive for COVID-19 as of Monday, along with an unspecified number of employees. The infected home is located in Norton County, northwest Kansas, which has seen one of the largest relative increases in confirmed coronavirus cases over the course of two weeks in the country.
The Norton County Health Department confirmed Monday night that all 62 residents and some employees of Andbe Home in Norton have tested positive for the new coronavirus. The agency also said that a resident of Andbe Home is hospitalized, while the remaining 51 are being treated at home.
It was not clear how many people had symptoms of the disease known to affect the elderly the most.
The local health department said that residents are quarantined in their rooms and that the house does not allow outside visitors.
The nursing home outbreak came after the state Department of Health and Environment last week reported more than 100 cases in Norton State Prison over the two weeks ending Wednesday.
