Thompson Hera withdraws from the Diamond League in Birmingham

Athlete Elaine Thompson-Herrah will not play Friday in the second Diamond League game of the season. The five-time Olympic champion in athletics withdrew from competition in Birmingham on Thursday.

“The decision has been made not to come to Birmingham as a precaution after she experienced some physical discomfort during training,” the Diamond League wrote on its website.

Thompson-Herah hopes to return to competition in the near future. In April, she set the best time of the year in the women’s 100m. She came in 10.89 seconds in the Continental Cup in the United States Walnut. Hera Thompson ran into the semifinals at the time. The athlete did not participate in the final without giving any reason.

The Jamaican sprinter won three gold medals during the Tokyo Olympics last summer: in the 100m and 200m and in the 4x100m relay. Four years ago, in Rio de Janeiro, she also won the 100 and 200 meters. She also won a silver medal in the 4x100m relay.

At the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, she finished the 200m behind world champion Daphne Schippers.
