The cricketers ended the World Cup with a hopeless defeat to India

The Dutch cricket team also lost its ninth and final World Cup match in India. National coach Ryan Cook’s side were unable to take on the host nation in a sold-out stadium in Bengaluru. India won by 160 runs.

The defeat against India was not a shame, as it was the ninth successive victory for the host team. As the only unbeaten team, India enters the semi-finals, where they will meet New Zealand. South Africa and Australia will play in the other semi-final. The Dutch team finished the World Cup in tenth and last place.

India started the match against Netherlands batting and scored 410 runs. Shreyas Iyer scored 128 runs, KL Rahul scored 102 runs. Improving that number of shots proved to be an impossible task for the Dutch team, although Cook’s men did their best, including 54 shots from Teja Nidamanoro and 45 shots from Sybrand Engelbrecht. The score stopped at 250 points.

The Dutch team managed to win twice in the World Cup, over South Africa and Bangladesh. Besides India, the team also lost to England, Afghanistan, Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Pakistan.

The defeat to India means that the Netherlands do not qualify for the Champions Trophy in 2025. The team will now prepare for the short match Twenty20 World Cup in 2024 in the United States and the Caribbean.
