“In the following programme, individuals were visually rejuvenated with the help of artificial intelligence,” reads the beginning of SRF’s new “Mindblow” series.
“Mindblow” is a series about what you would tell your younger self if you had the chance. First, the audience takes us back to 2003, to the “MusicStar” team.
One of the most famous people who participated in this talent show is Bashi. He also appears in this series, in the first five minutes he wants to give the main character pills. Viewers may have to look twice: Is he really bashi? It seems very small.
The answer is yes. It's young Patchi.
This is possible thanks to artificial intelligence. Four people worked for two weeks to create this one-minute – but important – scene in the series.
An actor resembling the young Patchi was chosen and Patchi's face was modeled on him using modern technology in post-production.
However, the use of such techniques to change people must be treated with caution. “Mindblow” director Eric Andrea says something like:
“It is important for people to realize that video can be deceptive and never shows the absolute truth, but only gives a point of view. (…) It is necessary as a spectator to remain alert and attentive and to question things. On the other hand, film and video makers must be aware of their responsibility.”
“Mindblow” consists of six episodes and can be watched on SRF Play or YouTube.
Do you think the Revolutionary Front did a good job with young Bachi?
