Parkour tourists destroy a historic building in Italy while filming | RTL News

Brian Rodriguez, June 20, 2024

In the video of the team's antics in Matera, the moment can be seen about 20 minutes later. A member jumps from one building to find a stone ornament protruding from the wall of another building. When he landed on it, the piece of stone broke. Both the decoration and the parkour athlete fall.

You can see it in this video:

“In this episode we are in the beautiful city of Matera,” the team captioned the video. “We explored the city and found great challenges everywhere, and Devon had an ugly downfall that could have ended badly.”

The city of Matera is located in the southern Basilicata region, about 250 kilometers east of Naples. Some houses were carved out of rock hundreds of years ago. The city has held UNESCO World Heritage status since 1993. In the latest James Bond film No Time to Die, a car chase takes place through the city streets.

Venice is off limits

Members face a lot of criticism on social media, including from other parkour practitioners who believe the group shows little respect for cultural heritage. The same group – in their words – is no longer allowed to enter the historic Italian city of Venice.

Things often go wrong with tourists in Italy. For example, German travelers dropped a precious 150-year-old statue in August, and a British tourist carved his name on the Colosseum wall last year. Last month, a 27-year-old Dutchman was arrested for writing graffiti on a 2,000-year-old wall near Volcano Vesuvius.
