Rower Nicky van Sprang from Almere is hoping to qualify for the Olympic Games in Switzerland next week. Van Sprang and teammate Guillaume Krummenhoek know what to do in the qualifying tournament in Lucerne. Van Sprang: “It's very simple. We have to finish in the top two.”

Not satisfied with the European Commission
Van Sprang and Kromenhoek have just returned from the European Championships held in Hungary at the end of last month. There, the duo finished in fifth place behind four countries that already had a ticket to the Games.

Van Sprang: “We are not at all dissatisfied with that European Championship. We came out of a difficult training period. It was not a peak moment for us but it was like a training match. Under these circumstances, things were getting a little better every day.”

Van Sprang shares the two-person rowing boat, the Two Without, with Guillaume Krummenhoek with which he won the B final during the All-Japanese Games in 2021. The duo know each other well.

Krummenhoek: “Our action plan is compatible. It doesn't always agree, but we can discuss it very well. Our coach guides us well in this matter.”

A chance to win the last two tickets
Van Sprang believes that in the qualifiers in Lucerne, including the Netherlands, there are four countries that have a chance of winning the final two tickets to the Games: “I think the Danes again. This team qualified with us three years ago. Serbia, which we are” won the championship “Last Europe and on the Lithuanians.”

Van Sprang and Kromenhoek will play for the first time on Sunday during the Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OKT) in Lucerne.
