London Heathrow has been named the world’s best airport for shopping in 2026, leading a global ranking that highlights the growing importance of retail in the modern passenger experience.

The Skytrax World Airport Awards placed Singapore Changi Airport second and Rome Fiumicino Airport third. Major hubs across Asia, Europe and the Middle East filled the remaining positions, reflecting continued investment in duty-free stores, luxury boutiques and destination-focused retail.

Airport shopping has evolved far beyond traditional souvenir stands. Leading international terminals now resemble major shopping centers, offering luxury fashion, cosmetics, jewelry, electronics, local specialties, food and travel-exclusive products.

Heathrow Tops the 2026 Airport Shopping Ranking

    1. London Heathrow, United Kingdom

Heathrow secured first place through the scale and diversity of its retail offerings. Its terminals feature British labels, international fashion houses, beauty stores, jewelry retailers, electronics outlets and duty-free shopping.

Terminal 5 is particularly well known for premium retail, although the airport offers products across a range of prices. Heathrow’s large international passenger base also provides retailers with access to travelers from Europe, Asia, North America and the Middle East.

    2. Singapore Changi, Singapore

Singapore Changi ranked second, combining shopping with its broader passenger-focused terminal experience. Travelers can browse luxury goods, watches, jewelry, cosmetics, electronics, confectionery and Singaporean products.

Its spacious terminal design and role as a major transit hub give connecting passengers significant opportunities to shop. Changi was also named the world’s best airport overall and received the leading award for airport dining in 2026.

    3. Rome Fiumicino, Italy

Rome Fiumicino placed third, supported by Italy’s global reputation for fashion, craftsmanship and food. Its stores offer Italian clothing, accessories, cosmetics, specialty foods and luxury merchandise alongside international brands.

The airport provides departing visitors with a final opportunity to purchase Italian goods before leaving the country. Fiumicino also placed seventh in the overall global airport ranking.

    4. Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong

Hong Kong International Airport took fourth place. Its retail selection includes luxury fashion, watches, jewelry, cosmetics, electronics and regional products.

The airport benefits from Hong Kong’s status as an international shopping destination and a major Asian connecting hub. Its bright, modern retail areas allow transit passengers to access premium brands without travelling into the city.

    5. Paris Charles de Gaulle, France

Paris Charles de Gaulle ranked fifth, offering French fashion, perfumes, cosmetics, accessories, food and wine. The airport is especially attractive to luxury shoppers seeking globally recognized French brands.

Charles de Gaulle also ranked sixth among the world’s top airports overall and was named Europe’s best airport in 2026.

    6. Abu Dhabi International Airport, United Arab Emirates

Abu Dhabi took sixth place and became the highest-ranked Middle Eastern airport for shopping. Its modern terminal contains luxury fashion boutiques, jewelry and watch retailers, cosmetics stores, electronics outlets and duty-free businesses.

The result reflects the Gulf region’s substantial investment in premium airport facilities designed to serve international and connecting passengers.

    7. Seoul Incheon, South Korea

Seoul Incheon ranked seventh, supported by its combination of Korean and international brands. Beauty products, cosmetics, food, fashion and local souvenirs are central to its retail appeal.

Its extensive duty-free areas are integrated into a spacious terminal environment. Incheon also finished second in the overall world airport ranking.

    8. Istanbul Airport, Turkey

Istanbul Airport placed eighth. The large international hub offers luxury fashion, jewelry, watches, cosmetics, electronics, confectionery and Turkish products.

Its location between Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East makes it an important shopping destination for transfer passengers. Istanbul also ranked eighth in the overall airport standings.

    9. Tokyo Narita, Japan

Tokyo Narita ranked ninth, giving passengers access to Japanese confectionery, beauty products, electronics, traditional souvenirs and international luxury brands.

Narita was also ranked fifth among the world’s best airports overall and received the 2026 award for the world’s best airport staff.

    10. Taiwan Taoyuan, Taiwan

Taiwan Taoyuan completed the top 10 with a retail mix that includes duty-free stores, international brands, electronics, cosmetics and Taiwanese specialties.

Its inclusion means five Asian airports appear in the ranking, underscoring the region’s strength in airport retail and passenger services.

Airport Retail Becomes a Major Business

Airport shopping has become an increasingly valuable source of commercial revenue as terminals grow larger and passengers spend more time between flights.

Successful airport retail depends on more than the number of stores. Product variety, competitive pricing, convenient locations, terminal design and efficient service all influence whether passengers choose to shop.

The 2026 ranking shows that the strongest airports combine international connectivity with distinctive retail experiences. From luxury boutiques at Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle to Korean cosmetics at Incheon and local specialties at Narita and Taoyuan, each leading airport offers products tied to both global demand and regional identity.
