LG Display: The conversion to OLED.EX is complete

LG Display: The conversion to OLED.EX is complete

Theodore Meeks, November 25, 2022

According to panel manufacturer LG Display, it has already completely switched to the production of new OLED.EX panels. The LEDs should work more efficiently and thus brighten up to 30 percent more than their predecessors.

opposite the site HD flat panels LG Display has confirmed that since the end of the second quarter of 2022, the new OLED.EX panels with high brightness will only be manufactured in its own factories.

However, this does not mean that all new TVs are already equipped with this board. Because they could have been produced prior to the change or still be assembled with any leftovers from the old OLED panels. In addition to parent company LG Electronics, many TV manufacturers use OLED panels from LG Display. These companies include Hisense, Panasonic, Philips, and Sony. Philips had already introduced the OLED807 with OLED.EX at the beginning of the year.

OLED.EX means more shine

The new generation of panels uses a more efficient and stable deuterium-based binder instead of the hydrogen in the organic matter. Combined with the modified algorithms, this should increase the stability and efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes, thus enabling 30 percent higher maximum brightness compared to conventional OLED panels. The brand name “EX” is an acronym for “Evolution” and “eXperience,” according to the manufacturer.

Samsung Display competes with QD-OLED

In Samsung Display, the competing product is QD-OLED. The technology differs significantly from LG’s white OLED approach, where blue OLEDs are fused with quantum dots. It was only recently announced that Philips is also considering Samsung’s QD OLED displays for future products.
