Joran Popovic first addition to Sportclub Genemuiden |  The City Courier

GENEMUIDEN – Sports club Genemuiden gets its first takeover. The main division has reached an agreement with ball-resistant striker Joran Popovic for the next season.

Several clubs have shown interest in the striker, but he has chosen Sportclub Genemuiden, where he will play with his former teammate Hidde Streutker.

Popovic is 23 years old, 1 meter tall, 90 center forward and has a nose for goal. He started playing football at ZFC Zuidlaren at the age of five, where he stood out at a young age and was selected for the talented teams in KNVB.

In 2015 he switched to play football at a higher level, he also excelled in ACV and was discovered by FC Groningen and FC Emmen, he chose FC Groningen, but after a year gave up and started playing with HZVV in Hoogeveen. He played there for four seasons. From this period Sportclub Genemuiden was known as a “beautiful and ambitious club with a beautiful sports park and a group of die-hard fans”.

In 2021, Popovich chose to attend college and venture to the United States and went on to play for the West Virginia University Mountaineers. He decided to do his master’s degree from Groningen and thus became available again in the Netherlands.
