    Things to watch out

To keep the coffee beans in the best conditions, there are several things to watch out for. Indeed, it would be a shame to buy quality coffee and not be able to retain all these qualities.

For this, it will be necessary to be careful to avoid direct light on your coffee. To do this, choose an opaque container or put a coffee bag in a cupboard. As a result, you will be sure that no ray of the sun will be able to reach your precious grain.

Next, it is important to pay attention to oxidation. As already mentioned, oxygen harms coffee, and then the latter loses its organoleptic properties. So choose an airtight container. Sometimes it’s entirely possible to keep the bag you bought your coffee in, especially if you can properly reseal it.

Finally, temperature is also an important point to consider. It is recommended that you store your coffee in a cool, dry place. So beware of some people who think they are doing the right thing, and recommend keeping their coffee in the fridge. This place is too humid for coffee beans.

So prefer a closet, not too close to the heat sources in your home (heating, oven, etc.).

    Suitable box or bag

Coffee is usually sold in bags, sealed cans, or has a freshness valve (which takes out the gas from freshly roasted coffee, but protects it from oxygen). These bags are often not designed with a proper closure. Therefore, as soon as the package is opened, the coffee will begin to oxidize.

For this reason, it is advisable to have an airtight box. This box should, of course, protect the coffee from the air, but the ideal one is an opaque box that also protects it from light.

If your coffee bag has a zipper, feel free to use it by removing air from the bag after each opening.

Grind your coffee as you go

Finally, we invite you to grind your coffee just before using it. In fact, it would be a shame to buy coffee beans just for not grinding them at the last minute.

While it may be tempting to grind your coffee for a week or several days, it is not recommended. This is partly why you want to buy beans instead of pre-ground coffee! Coffee cells are more in contact with air when they are ground, so they oxidize more quickly and lose their organoleptic properties. The result in the cup is less good!

Pour out the desired amount of coffee

It would be a shame to grind your coffee right before you use it, but don’t be careful to release only the amount of coffee you will be using.

And yes, here again you may be tempted to pre-fill your coffee grinder, but I would advise against doing so, for the reasons mentioned above.

Unless your grinder is airtight and opaque, it is best to put the amount of coffee you plan to grind into your coffee, not for the whole week or even the day.

This is how you will be able to retain the aroma and taste of your coffee beans as much as possible, for a cup result that meets your expectations!
