Two trains collided outside Barcelona tonight. The driver of one of the carriages was killed and dozens of passengers were slightly injured.

This was announced by the Catalan authorities. The collision occurred when a freight train derailed and collided with a passenger train at a station in Sant Puy de Llobregat, about 14 kilometers from Barcelona.

According to the Spanish rescue services, 85 people were slightly injured. Eight of them were taken to hospital for treatment, and 77 others were immediately treated for their injuries.

The passenger train driver was killed in the collision. The Catalan authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

“My sincere condolences to the family of the driver who died in the derailment,” Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez wrote.
