Zaki Anfari, like many of his compatriots, was desperate to escape the Taliban-occupied land and paid for it with his life.

American soldiers found Anvari’s body after the plane made an emergency landing in Qatar. The young man was 19 years old. According to his social media profile, he lived in Kabul. When he was 16 years old, he played football for the national youth team of Afghanistan.

His friends and relatives praise him on social media. “A friend with whom I made the most unforgettable memories of my life. One wrote that his loss was unimaginable.” Others also describe him as a very kind and warm person.

In recent days, horrific images have shown Afghans clinging tightly to departing planes at Kabul airport and then dropping dozens and sometimes hundreds of meters after takeoff.

According to a US Army officer, soldiers on board noticed that something was wrong when the landing gear failed to collapse after takeoff. When landing, it turns out that there are stowaways in the place where the wheels usually fold.
