A video posted on social media shows a United Airlines employee pointing at 38-year-old Adam Jane from his seat. He pulled a red thong in front of his face at that moment. The other passengers seem to laugh at the event and even stick to it once it is cleared, causing the man to miss his flight to Washington.

Jane told NBC News that he often boarded a plane with his striking “mask”. “The best way to illustrate the absurd is absurdity,” he says. “I received different reactions from the cockpit crew on every flight. Some highly appreciated, others confrontational.”

United Airlines responded in a statement to the remarkable incident, after American media reported it. “It is clear that the customer did not comply with the federal mask mandate and we appreciate that our team addressed the issue on the ground prior to takeoff to avoid potential turbulence in the air,” the statement said.

Passenger Jane wouldn’t be fooled and would just try another airline, he says. “Hopefully Spirit Lines will have a sense of humor.”
