Singapore Airlines will enhance its regional network later this month by introducing a long-haul configured Airbus A350 on selected flights between Singapore and Manila, offering passengers upgraded cabin products typically reserved for intercontinental routes.

Beginning March 29, 2026, the airline will deploy its Airbus A350 Long Haul aircraft on the SQ912 and SQ919 services connecting Singapore Changi Airport and Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The move replaces the Airbus A350 Medium Haul currently operating these flights and introduces a more premium onboard experience without increasing flight frequency.

First Long-Haul Business Class on a Short Regional Route

This upgrade marks the first time Singapore Airlines’ long-haul Business Class seats will be regularly available on the Manila route. The aircraft features the airline’s 2013 Business Class product, known for its wider seat design and greater personal space compared to the newer 2018 Regional Business Class seats used on other flights to Manila.

For travelers, this represents a significant step up in comfort on a relatively short journey, aligning the route more closely with the airline’s long-haul standards.

In addition, the aircraft brings a slight increase in premium capacity, adding 14 more Business Class seats per week in each direction compared with the medium-haul configuration.

No Change in Frequency, But More Premium Options

Despite the cabin upgrade, Singapore Airlines will maintain its current schedule of five daily flights between Singapore and Manila. The airline expanded to this frequency in 2025 after Jetstar withdrew from the route, leaving room for increased capacity.

The introduction of the long-haul A350 reflects a strategy of improving product quality rather than expanding flight numbers, allowing the airline to target higher-yield passengers while maintaining operational stability.

From March 29 through April 30, 2026, the upgraded aircraft will operate five days per week on the designated flights. On Wednesdays and Sundays, the airline will continue using the Airbus A350 Medium Haul aircraft.

    Premium Economy Cabin—With a Twist

The Airbus A350 Long Haul also includes a Premium Economy cabin, but passengers on the Singapore–Manila route will not experience it as a full premium product.

Instead, Singapore Airlines will sell these seats as Economy Class with optional paid seat selection. While travelers benefit from extra space and improved seating, they will not receive Premium Economy meals or service enhancements.

This hybrid approach is consistent with how the airline deploys similar cabins on other short regional routes.

Enhanced Comfort Features for Economy Travelers

Even without upgraded service, the Premium Economy seats provide a noticeable improvement in comfort. Key features include:

    • 38-inch seat pitch, offering significantly more legroom
    • 19-inch seat width for added personal space
    • Eight-inch recline for better relaxation
    • 2-4-2 seating layout instead of the standard 3-3-3
    • 13.3-inch HD entertainment screens
    • Calf rests, footrests, and adjustable lighting
    • USB ports and AC power outlets

The cabin layout also includes paired window seats, making it an attractive option for couples and leisure travelers.

Seat selection fees typically range from around US$30 for standard seats to US$55 for extra-legroom options, depending on frequent flyer status. PPS Club members can select these seats free of charge, while other passengers may secure them at no cost during online check-in if availability allows.

    KrisFlyer Redemptions Remain Accessible

Frequent flyer members can continue to redeem miles on the Singapore–Manila route, including flights operated by the upgraded aircraft.

Typical one-way Saver redemption rates are:

    • Economy Class: 13,000 miles
    • Business Class: 25,000 miles

Taxes and fees remain relatively low, averaging about S$65 from Singapore to Manila and S$20 for the return journey. The route also frequently appears in promotional redemption offers, providing additional value for loyalty program members.

Future Cabin Upgrades on the Horizon

Looking ahead, Singapore Airlines plans to introduce a new suite-style Business Class product on its Airbus A350 Long Haul fleet starting in the second quarter of 2026.

The airline aims to retrofit its entire A350 long-haul fleet by 2030. While these new cabins may eventually appear on regional routes, they are expected to debut on flagship long-haul destinations such as London.

For now, passengers traveling between Singapore and Manila will continue to experience the current 2013 Business Class seats on the upgraded aircraft.

A Strategic Upgrade for a Competitive Route

The deployment of the Airbus A350 Long Haul aircraft on the Singapore–Manila route highlights Singapore Airlines’ focus on enhancing passenger experience without increasing operational complexity.

By offering long-haul comfort on a short-haul route, the airline is positioning itself to attract both premium leisure travelers and business passengers seeking a more comfortable journey within Southeast Asia.
