The Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) has come up with a forecast that will give many in Brussels and their supporters here in the Netherlands sleepless nights: the UK will grow by 1.6-1.8% over the next 15 years. That means they are not only putting the ordeal of Brexit behind them, but also the coronavirus pandemic and high inflation.
While the EU clings to its stifling bureaucracy and endless regulations, the UK has a bright future ahead of it. Its economies will grow faster than those of the so-called European economic heavyweights, such as France, Germany, Italy and Spain. Why is Brexit a bad idea?
The Bank of England may be pessimistic about the short term, but the CEBR shows that the long term looks bright for the UK. London remains a world-class financial and consulting hub, and the country’s strong services sector will only contribute to its economic growth.
What does this mean for pro-Europeans and Remainers, who love nothing more than to portray the UK as a sinking ship? It is proof that Brexit, far from being an economic disaster, can be a blessing for a country freed from the shackles of the EU. It is time we saw that and realised that the UK, free from EU interference, has become an economic superpower. Brexit is not just a political success; it threatens to become an economic miracle.
