The ponies made their progress yesterday in the final of the Nations competition at the European Championships in Objelabeek, which was held over three rounds. Lieselot Kooremans had already made a strong impression in the opening round on Thursday and was able to continue that trend yesterday. In the saddle of Elando van de Roshoeve (by Rebus G), she once again remained clear in both rounds. Bethany Vos and Jip Grootegoed also rode some nice laps, but a total of 20 penalties ultimately gave the ponies team a fifth place.

With four penalties and fourth in the provisional rankings, TeamNL started the second round of the Nations competition yesterday. Up until the third round, national coach Mann Burman’s team had secured bronze. Kooremans scored two clear rounds. For Grootegoed with Fantasia (by For Kids Only) and Vos with Still Got Me (by Coral Reef Follow Me II), one bar fell in both rounds. Louis Wilshot completed the quartet with Kerian van Orkde (by Kanchiper). Unfortunately, neither round was free of jumping faults, which meant that she was the winner. Final score: 20 penalty points.

    Britain wins

Germany, Ireland and Sweden have not taken any penalties after Thursday. All three teams had strong rounds yesterday, finishing second (12), third (15) and fourth (16) respectively. The British team started both rounds with eight penalties. They did very well by keeping their total penalty points to zero. As a result, they became the surprise winners of the country competition.

    Individually

Kooremans is one of six riders who have remained clear over the three different heats. This gives her a good chance of winning a medal in tomorrow’s individual final. Grootegoed now shares 12th place with eight penalties, while Vos is 23rd with 13 penalties. The best thirty groups will start the final. This means that Joel Muijres and Zinzi Jerle (37), Louis Wilshot and Kerian van Orkrede (38) will compete for the last time in today’s farewell event.
