Chinese company Xiaomi promises that the update to its HyperOS operating system will improve the performance of your smartphones in the future. According to the news portal Gizchina, HyperOS 2.0 brings improvements to a well-known feature that will increase the performance of your devices.
The feature behind this performance boost is called “extra RAM.” This already exists with the current HyperOS operating system. It allows you to use free portions of your device’s memory to create virtual RAM. With HyperOS 2.0, the standard 4GB minimum RAM expansion is raised to 6GB.

By increasing the standard value, Xiaomi offers your mobile phones more performance. If you can regularly access an extended 6GB RAM with your Xiaomi mobile phone in the future, you can expect smoother operation of demanding applications.

HyperOS 2.0 is about to be released. There is already a list of devices that will not receive the update. According to fan blog XiaomiTime , it could arrive with Android 15 either in August or October of this year. To check for the update, open Settings, select Software update and tap on Check for updates. If the update is available, it will be displayed and you can install it.
XiaomiTime reports that 17 devices will not receive the HyperOS 2.0 update. This includes the Redmi Note 12 Pro and the entire Redmi Note 11 series. Xiaomi will completely stop software support for the latter in January 2025, although the handsets will only be available in Germany from 2022.
advice: If your phone doesn't benefit from the update, you can of course manually increase the default RAM to 6GB within HyperOS. This trick also improves performance on older Xiaomi phones.
