A new benchmark comes from Finnish developer Basemark that measures and compares graphics performance in ray tracing scenarios across different platforms. The benchmark is called GPUScore: Breaking Limit. At this point, the ComputerBase community can show what’s possible with any hardware.

The new standard is briefly described.

Basemark has already published several GPU benchmarks, including the first ray tracing benchmark for Android smartphones. With GPUScore: Breaking Limit, performance comparisons across different platforms should now be possible, which is why there is talk of a “cross-platform ray tracing benchmark.” With versions for PC (Windows 10/11), Linux (Ubuntu), Android (from version 12) and iOS (from version 17), the results of desktops and laptops as well as smartphones and tablets can be compared with each other.

    Cross-platform or Ultra

There are two workloads to choose from. The “Cross-Platform” setting allows for comparison between PCs and smartphones, because in addition to Windows and Linux, Android and iOS are also supported. The resolution is average Full HD and the video memory requirement is around 2.1 GB. Raytraced Reflections and Raytraced Shadows are used as effects.

The ultra-high-end workload is then dedicated exclusively to Windows or Linux PCs. Ray-traced reflections and ray-traced shadows are mapped using Ray-traced Global Illumination (RTGI). Additionally, 4K UHD resolution is four times higher, which also significantly increases VRAM requirements.

    System Requirements

The requirements for each system listed below come from Basemark. Basically, a GPU with ray tracing support is required.

In Ultra mode, only Windows or Linux computers are supported. Due to the higher resolution and quality, more video memory is required.

    Download and start the benchmark.

You can download GPUScore: Breaking Limit in the appropriate version for Windows, Linux, Android or iOS from the official website and then install it.

The “Graphics” tab should then be selected at the top of the launcher. Under “Workload” you can choose “Ultra” or “Cross-Platform” depending on your preference or platform. The required API (DirectX 12, Vulkan, Metal) can be selected below and finally the graphics solutions available in the system are available to choose from (for systems with integrated GPU + dedicated graphics card).

Once the benchmark is completed, the result is output in the form of a score and FPS. At this point the population should be compared through the score. The next paragraph tells you how to enter the results.

    Submit results

The measured values specified for this reader test must also be submitted using the form below. When you submit the form, the CMS will automatically create a post in the comments thread for this article. However, participants can add more information here. necessarily outside the pre-arranged area – It is automatically evaluated by the content management system (CMS). In particular, information about the driver used can be useful for further analysis. Only when the publication is saved are the values visible to ComputerBase.

It is important to pay attention to the correct name, which should always contain information about the GPU, CPU and RAM. The information should be entered as shown in the following list and the already available benchmarks – this greatly increases clarity. Ideally, the comments created can be supplemented with screenshots of the test results.

    • RTX 4080 Super, 7800X3D, DDR5-5200
    • RX 7800 XT (OC), 5600X, DDR4-3600
    • RTX 3070 Ti (180W), 11700K (UV), DDR4-4400
    • Laptop RTX 4060, 13650HX, DDR5-4800
    • Apple iPhone 15, A16 Bionic

The result is searched in each case in the form of a result Not FPS!

    Submitting benchmark results

notice: To submit benchmark results, please log in!

How does it work here? You can publish your results as a forum post. To make our work easier, the data for the chart needs to have a specific format. To do this, this template creates a forum post, which you send with screenshots and added details (but please do not change the generated part!).

Use the same format as existing diagram entries (and include notes in the text if necessary). You can free-write details in your forum post.

    2. Your measurements (without unit)

The test results from the community are checked in turn by the editorial team and then combined into the standard charts. The orange entry in the charts is linked to the forum post in question. If there is no link, it is the editorial team's result.
