Turkey's defeat to the Netherlands hurts Sinan Engin. The former midfielder followed the match as an analyst for the Turkish YouTube channel Asist Analysis and did not hesitate to criticize the referee Clement Turpin and especially the Turkish coach Vincenzo Montella.

Engin, who played as a footballer for Turkish club Beşiktaş between 1981 and 1989, is angry with the starting lineup of the Turkish national team. “Instead of Kenan Yıldız, who had been playing badly for weeks, Kerem Aktürkoğlu should have started because of his experience and good play. Semih (Kiliçsoy, ed.) could have also started. When Kerem started playing on the left, Barış (Yılmaz, ed.) on the right and Cenk (Tosun) in the striker, the game changed. Unfortunately, Montella acted like a coward and did not dare to show courage.”

The article continues below the video.

“The Netherlands brought in Weghorst, a lazy player who can’t even lift his butt. Why? Because he kept the ball in the team! With these kinds of substitutions in Turkey, the game could have gone completely differently before the Netherlands scored,” says the 59-year-old former footballer. “If Fatih Terim was the coach, we would have reached the final. He never plays like a coward. I think Montella failed. He has never made a direct contribution in a game. I am happy with our players, but I criticise Montella. He cost us a place in the final.”

According to the analyst, Xavi Simons deserved a red card after standing on Mert Muldor's leg with his nails. Referee Clement Turpin gave him a yellow card. Engin spoke of a “rude and dishonest French referee”. He asked: “How come there is no red card there? It is clear that the Turkish lobby is not successful in Europe, with UEFA or with referees.”
