Many WhatsApp users should be careful. If the backup is too large, those affected will only have a few days to delete the data elsewhere.

Munich – Important change for WhatsApp. Only recently, WhatsApp introduced a function reminiscent of Facebook. Many users now receive a notification on their smartphones that they must take action within 30 days. Otherwise, chats and saved data could be lost.

WhatsApp backups now consume Google storage space

like a gate chip.de Reportedly, only Android users are affected by this change. Previously, they could easily back up WhatsApp backups via their Google account, regardless of the size of the backup, as the available Google Drive storage space was not compensated for.

However, this will soon change. From now on, WhatsApp backup will also use Google Drive storage space, according to the portal. Therefore, users who have exceeded their capacity limit as a result of this change will receive a notification. This informs that users have only 30 days to back up their chats and data elsewhere. After this period, unnecessary data will be deleted automatically and in chronological order. WhatsApp recently surprised its users by reorganizing contacts.

This means that WhatsApp backups can still be saved via Google.

Those who have not previously backed up their chat history to their Google account will not be affected by this change. However, users can still save their WhatsApp chat history to the cloud. According to a message from WhatsApp, the following steps are required:

    • Activate Google account on the device
    • Google Play Service installed
    • Sufficient storage space on the smartphone
    • Sufficient storage space on your Google account
    • More options > Settings > Chats
    • Chat Backup > Google Account Backup

Google announced in a statement that each account will have 15 GB of Google Drive cloud storage. With the so-called “Google One” subscription, the capacity can be expanded to at least 100 GB. For the basic subscription, users pay €1.99 per month to get the corresponding storage space. For the premium version, users pay €9.99 per month and get 2 TB of storage. (BK)
