This means that WhatsApp backups can still be saved via Google.
Those who have not previously backed up their chat history to their Google account will not be affected by this change. However, users can still save their WhatsApp chat history to the cloud. According to a message from WhatsApp, the following steps are required:

- Google Play Service installed
- Sufficient storage space on the smartphone
- Sufficient storage space on your Google account
- More options > Settings > Chats
- Chat Backup > Google Account Backup
Google announced in a statement that each account will have 15 GB of Google Drive cloud storage. With the so-called “Google One” subscription, the capacity can be expanded to at least 100 GB.
