At the 2nd School Robotics Competition at the MINT and IT Middle School in Stockerau, there was a great turnout, a great atmosphere and the teams showed great performances with their robots. 20 (!) Teams from all categories eventually took part in the competition which began with a preliminary round. In this, each team competed twice and the eight teams with the most points were allowed to advance to the next round.

What does this clip look like? Three tasks must be completed in a maximum of 2.5 minutes: First, the Beebot (a bee-shaped robot that knows only four directions) must be programmed to move along the specified path as error-free as possible.

The self-built Lego robot is then allowed to leave its starting points and must also travel across fields, charge the Lego part at the destination and return to the starting point. Points are deducted for crossing lines. The third part was inspired by the current European Football Championship, where the robot itself now had to kick three footballs into a small goal.

Points were also awarded for costume and teamwork. A team of mostly outside judges tallied the scores, and naturally, the tension increased significantly from the quarterfinals to the finals. There was also a show for the audience in the break room and a buffet was available for refreshments.

Result: Third place went to “The Black Rings” with Patrick Weigel Pollak, Raphael Lehmann and Richard Street from 1Mint, second place went to “Les François” with Alexander Hostinger, Kilian Raslag and Pascal Koppelhert from the fourth row, who impressed with a disguise matching their names: Striped rowing suits, even mustaches and baguettes.
