COPENHAGEN – In addition to integrated logistics services for conventional and containerized products, Maersk also offers large-volume and specialized freight shipments as part of its Maersk Project Logistics (MPL) business. Another example of Maersk's capabilities in heavy transport is the new project of Danish renewable energy leader Vestas.

As a global leader in sustainable energy solutions, Vestas Maersk has been awarded a major contract to transport the ultra-heavy engines for the largest wind turbine ever built, the V236.

This part of the 15 MW turbine alone weighs 260 tons and will be installed in the facade of the Vista plant in Lindo, Denmark.

Maersk will provide transportation from the assembly site in Lommel, Belgium, via Antwerp to the port of Lindu using special equipment. The drivetrain is one of several key components of the nacelle. The final weight of the V236 nacelle, including the drivetrain, is more than 630 tons.

At a later stage, Maersk will also transfer the V236 engines to the new Vestas plant in Poland.

Maersk is building an integrated supply chain solution for all freight flows entering production to its two production sites in Denmark and Poland. In addition to heavy transport, Maersk also handles container shipping, air freight, customs services, intermodal transportation and warehousing as part of a fully integrated logistics solution on a global scale.
