After the Netflix app was shut down on some Sony TVs and Blu-ray players in March, it's now the next devices' turn. As Sony announces, as of July 24, 2024, Netflix will no longer be supported on the Bravia TV series from 2014.

Sony describes the reason as follows:

“Netflix has announced that as of July 24, 2024, the Netflix app will no longer be supported on some 2014 BRAVIA LCD TVs due to technical limitations.”

    These are the affected models:

    • S9 series
    • W5 series
    • W6 series
    • W7 series
    • W70 series
    • W8 series
    • W85 series
    • W95 series
    • X85 series
    • X9 series
    • X95 series

For Sony Bravia owners who aren't sure if their TV is affected by Netflix being turned off, Sony offers some examples. The Netflix app will no longer work on models with the following serial numbers starting July 24:

    • KD-65S9005B
    • KDL-48W585B
    • KDL-40W605B
    • KDL-32W705B
    • KDL-32W705C
    • KDL-42W805B
    • KDL-60W855B
    • KDL-55W955B
    • KD-49X8505B
    • KD-55X9005B
    • KD-65X9505B

If you want to continue using Netflix on affected TVs, you can, for example, use the Netflix app on your TV or game console.

The last Netflix shutdown was a few months ago

The last time Netflix shut down its app on older devices was March 2024. Before that, the streaming app was shut down on some devices in October 2023.

At the time, Samsung Blu-ray players were affected as were smart TVs from Sony, Panasonic and Hitachi – as well as the Sony PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV. In 2019, Netflix has already been removed from a large number of older devices.

You can read about which TVs from Sony and other manufacturers like Samsung, Philips, and LG are currently supported by Netflix here.

In addition to TVs, Netflix also works on smartphones, tablets, computers, and various game consoles. The Netflix app is also pre-installed on TV boxes from many providers.
