Lunar Lake is said to be fast and efficient

Intel confirms the basic specifications of the CPU with a new 4P+4E architecture, meaning four performance cores from the Lion Cove generation along with four efficiency cores from the Skymont generation. Intel itself describes the team as “Great IPC and Performance/W“Gain, i.e. increased classic IPC and more performance per watt. The TDP parameters are already in the footnotes: 17W or 30W is defined as PL1.

The package also includes a significantly upgraded graphics unit with the Battlemage IP, which is at least 50 percent faster than Alchemist in its predecessor Meteor Lake, also because both the CPU and GPU take advantage of the short path to LPDDR5 memory, which is on the same path . Intel is also addressing the issue of power savings and efficiency head-on and is talking about significant improvements on the “low power island.” In Meteor Lake, additional LPE cores have been named so, among other things, and the “advanced” part of Lunar Lake is now said to be more than twice as powerful. Intel still lags a bit when it comes to performance information, but it talks more about CPU performance in cores than AMD Ryzen and Snapdragon

The Ryzen 7000 and older Qualcomm devices previously available in stores were beaten in terms of package power, but Qualcomm's new entrant is now likely to do much better here – but independent tests will only be available within weeks.

According to Intel, Lunar Lake has entered series production, will launch at Computex 2024, and products will be available in stores starting in the third quarter during the “holiday season.”

Everything is also going according to plan at Arrow Lake, with the start-up scheduled to take place in the fourth quarter as planned.
