Now it's official! WhatsApp is getting a new design. Both Android and iOS apps are currently being reviewed.

The first changes have already become visible in the past few weeks. Now Meta has introduced the new look of the messenger in a blog post and provides an overview of all the changes:

Dark mode on Android phones just got darker

    • New distinctive color: Meta now uses a new, consistent green color palette in the app. The accent color is used to identify notifications and buttons in Messenger, among other things. According to Meta, the color was chosen from among 35 colours. The company does not reveal whether you will have the opportunity to change it later.
    • New icons and illustrations: The icons are meant to make it easier to find your way around the app. WhatsApp has reviewed all the icons in the app and has partially animated them. The Messenger now relies on a rounded and defined style.
    • The navigation bar moves down: This change affects Android phones only. Here the navigation bar moves down like in iPhone. This makes it easier to use because the buttons are closer to your fingers.
    • New sharing dialog on iPhone: However, the share dialog has only been reviewed on iPhone. Instead of a menu filling the screen, a smaller menu now opens. The sharing dialog has been modified for the Android version of the app.
    • Chat filter: You can now find the buttons at the top of the chat list on iPhone and Android phones. You can use them to filter chats and, for example, display only those with unread messages or groups.
    • Dark Dark Mode: On Android phones, Dark Mode is now a certain degree darker. This has been a request from many fans and is intended to increase readability.

The overall goal of the redesign was to make the app more modern and modern. They also wanted to reduce complexity.

In recent years, we have mainly worked on new functionality and added more and more. Therefore, it is now also necessary to put our hand into the design.
