docom – In the next two weeks, you can encounter the new BMW X1 police car in the north-east of Frieslan. Police officers from the core team for this area are putting a BMW on trial for emergency services.

The test model can be deployed 24/7 from Duqm to emergency services for a week from Wednesday and then for another week from Barqum. The car will then move to the primary team in Drenthe.

    BMW X1 specifications

The maximum speed of the BMW is 208 kilometers per hour, and it reaches 100 kilometers per hour from a stop in 9.2 seconds.

    New agreement from 2025

The Dutch police currently have an agreement with Mercedes. From January 2025 to December 2029 (extending to December 2032), this will be acquired by BMW and Ford. In addition to the BMW X1, the police will also drive a Ford Kugas.

    Two suppliers

The police deliberately selected several suppliers. “The police deliberately contracted with two brands to be more flexible in the event of potential delivery problems,” says Michel de Ros, head of the steering group in charge of purchasing new cars.

    the test

During the trial period, three vehicles from both brands will roam around the Netherlands. After this trial period, evaluation will be carried out before the cars are actually delivered. The first delivery is expected to take place in mid-2025 if the test is successful. In total, police expect to purchase approximately 1,100 fossil-engined vehicles.
