It's an exciting day for King Harald of Norway. The 87-year-old royal is undergoing surgery again today. The Norwegian court stated that he was undergoing heart surgery.

During a holiday in Malaysia, King Harald contracted an infection at the end of February, which led to his hospitalization on the Malaysian island of Langkawi. The King received good care there and was eventually allowed to return to Norway with a temporary pacemaker.

    Permanent pacemaker

The 87-year-old king will have to go to knife again, the Norwegian court reported today. He will have a permanent pacemaker due to his low heart rate. The operation will be performed today at Rikshospitalet in Oslo. “Then the king will remain in the hospital for a few more days,” the court said. Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Ingrid Alexandra were in hospital last week to visit King Harald.

Update: Norwegian King Harald's pacemaker has been successfully installed, the Norwegian court has reported. 87-year-old Harald's doctor said: “His Majesty received a permanent pacemaker today. The operation was successful and the King is doing well.”

    Fragile health

King Harald had been struggling with his health for some time. For example, the king often suffers from a respiratory infection and walks with the help of walking sticks. However, the Norwegian monarch does not intend to abdicate, as his colleague Queen Margrethe did at the beginning of this year. King Harald recently explained that he has sworn an oath to the constitution, which he says is “for life.”
