According to what was reported by the WABetaInfo blog specializing in the WhatsApp application, an update to the messaging application is being developed. Specifically, it is the beta version of WhatsApp 2.24.4.25 for Android. One of the main features of the upcoming update is that it will no longer be possible to take screenshots of profile photos.
To further protect privacy, the popular messaging service disabled the ability to download other users' profile photos some time ago. The ability to take self-destruct photos and videos through screenshots has also been disabled.
Increased data protection for profile photos in Messenger
When you try to take a profile photo using the screenshot function, a message appears stating that this function is blocked. With this measure, the company adds another layer of protection to prevent profile photos from being stored and shared without the owner's consent. This fills an existing security gap.
The feature is currently limited to a small group of beta users, but it is expected to be rolled out to a wider audience in the near future.
Despite the update, there is no 100% guarantee that personal photos are protected. As the WABetaInfo blog confirms, there is still a possibility that the photo was taken with another device or camera.
