The US Supreme Court has considered for the first time the question of whether former President Donald Trump can be rejected by states in Republican primaries. The American media write that the highest judges are inclined towards no.

The court in Colorado decided last December that Trump would not participate in the presidential primaries. It is said to have violated the US Constitution. According to the judges in Colorado, Trump contributed to the insurrection through his role in the storming of the Capitol in 2021. That is why he should not hold any public office.

Trump was also excluded from the Maine primary. But this decision was postponed pending the ruling of the highest courts.

The Supreme Court consists of six conservative justices and three progressive justices. The judges question whether the above ruling applies to presidents. They also question whether it is democratic for nominees to be disqualified by judges.

In addition, exclusion may have serious consequences, because other countries are likely to follow suit. According to, among others CNN And nbc The justices don't seem to think it's right for individual states to have that much influence over national elections.

The Colorado Republican Party primary elections will be held on Tuesday, March 5. On what is called Super Tuesday, many states hold primaries.

The Supreme Court's ruling is expected sometime in the coming weeks.
