For Android smartphone users, apps purchased in the Google Play Store may suddenly disappear. According to GoogleWatchBlog, more and more users have reported that Google is remotely deleting apps from devices that have been removed from the Play Store. This causes surprise among app buyers, but it also serves smartphone security. In addition, the Google Calendar app is disappearing from devices with very old Android versions (under Android 8 “Oreo” as of August 2017) due to the minimum requirements being raised.

Since Play Store version 38.8, Android users have also been able to delete apps remotely from Android devices linked to their Google Account – such as other smartphones, smartwatches, cars, PCs, and Android TV.

    Delete your Google account

At the end of 2023, Google also launched a campaign to delete the account. If you haven't signed in to your Google Account for two years, you may have already lost your account. The reason for deletion is that inactive accounts are often misused – for example for identity theft or spam. In most cases, these “orphaned accounts” are not secured by two-factor authentication or subject to security checks.
