Around midday on January 11, the perpetrator called his victim using a French number. Over the phone, the online scammer explained to Pongauer how the investment worked. The 53-year-old also sent his TAN codes. The police wrote in a statement that 4,500 euros were debited from the victim's account during the phone call and transferred to a Lithuanian account.

Pongauer noticed the opponent immediately and had his account banned. However, the €4,500 can no longer be returned.
