Lower electricity costs
According to Gauss Fusion, the stellar has several advantages over the tokamak. The most important advantage, according to the company, is the low cost of electricity due to the high reliability and stability of this type of reactor. Both types of reactors enable fusion using magnetic confinement, where million-degree hot plasma is kept in a magnetic field cage in the annular combustion chamber.

Gauss Fusion receives support from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP): “We look forward to working with Gauss Fusion. We want to help build a fusion power plant as quickly as possible based on our scientific work with Wendelstein 7X.”said Sibylle Günther, Scientific Director of the IPP. “It is an important step for this company, with its unique industrial and technical expertise, to advance the development and promotion of nuclear fusion power. This can significantly shorten the path to a magnetic fusion power plant.”
Founded in 2022, Gauss Fusion is one of several German startups working in the field of nuclear fusion (g+).
