Hamish Mackenzie and Will Holmes are in the works for the coming years. The two talented cyclists from Australia have signed with Jayco AlUla, although they will first race for Hagens Berman Axeon-Jayco, the continental talent outfit of team manager Axel Merckx.
It's no surprise that 19-year-old McKenzie will be playing for Hagens Biermann Axon-Jaekko this year. In September, it was announced that the young rider had signed a contract with this popular training formation, but now Jayco AlUla has announced in a press release that McKenzie will make the step to the pros in 2025 by switching to Jayco AlUla.
Mackenzie is known as a promising expert in the field of time. Last year, he placed third in the Promises Trials World Championship in Stirling, Scotland. He has already been active as a trainee for the big company Jayco AlUla in 2023. He has already been allowed to appear in the Norwegian Arctic Race in the uniform of the famous cycling team. McKenzie was able to successfully complete his first match at Level 1.Pro.
Holmes follows a different career path than his older compatriot Mackenzie. The 17-year-old sole driver will spend another year first working for popular French junior team La Pomme Marseille Provence, then driving for the Hagens Berman Axeon-Jayco in 2025 and then joining Jayco AlUla in 2026. Holmes already showed impressive things last year in the under-19 category and last week became Australian junior time trial champion.
“It is very important to our collaboration that riders feel comfortable within our team. Hamish will move to the WorldTour in 2025 and we are very pleased to welcome Will Holmes in 2025. Will is clearly a great talent and the Australian hope. We are looking forward to working with him,” Merckx is pleased.
