A suspected investment fraudster was arrested in Mondsee yesterday. The 31-year-old is said to have stolen the savings of 26 people, including people from Salzburg.

Because he and other suspects are said to have deprived at least 26 people of their assets since May 2023, a 31-year-old Austrian was arrested in Mondsee (Vockelbruck district) on Thursday. People in Salzburg also fell victim to his scam, as he claimed to be investing their money in cryptocurrencies.

Salzburg police are investigating cryptocurrency scammers

According to police spokeswoman Erin Stover, the communication between the accused and the victims took place exclusively via the Internet. This means that the man who worked in Mondsee came not only to victims from his immediate surroundings, but also to people in Lower Austria, Styria, Bavaria and Switzerland.

The 31-year-old promised the affected parties that they would invest their money in cryptocurrencies. In fact, it was never invested.

Salzburg police found the accused and are continuing the investigation. The damage is currently estimated at up to 400,000 euros, according to a press release.
